Superman...

                                       This is him.

I have a calf on my farm that we saved from near death about 3 weeks ago. He is very energetic and loves his milk. Sometimes I swear that his eyes are 1000 times bigger than his stomach. He still tries to suck on you fingers even though he has finished his bottle. I am trying to get him to eat starter feed- feed that is more rich in minerals and protein- because one bag of milk re-placer is about 40 dollars, so yeah it is pretty expensive. It is fun to watch him run around and buck his little heals. I have named him Superman, because it is a miracle that he is alive.
He was born in my grandma's pasture while it was -11 degrees outside and there was 3 inches of snow on the ground. These factors can be fatal because when a calf is born they are all wet so Superman could have easily died of frost bite or hypothermia.
Anyway, he seems to be flourishing now and I plan to show him at the Livingston County Fair next year. he will be a bull because I just couldn't stand to show him as a steer because after you show them you would have to sell him to slaughter because a steer can't breed so in the eyes of any other human they are just a big fat juicy beef steak. I do eat meat but that is just how I am raised. I have shown steers in the past and hated letting them go because i knew where they were going. that is why I am showing 2 heifers this year. I hope Superman looks like this,

And I hope my heifers look like this,

And this,

My life the passed couple weeks...

So I have been pretty busy. Recently i have i inherited a newborn calf. he is about a week old now and he is defiantly growing. We have named him Superman because it is a miracle he is alive. by chance my dad had decided to go and check on our cows. he gets out of the truck to see if the water in the tank was frozen. it wasn't but he hears a loud moo and it sound like a cow in stress. He thought " oh no some coyotes got a hold of one of the calves" but then he drives down in the bottoms and find a wet calf, lying in the snow, while it is -11 degrees outside. he picks it up and puts it in the floor board of his truck and turns the heat all the way up and points it at the calf on the floor boards. We bring him home and we put him in our garage. He was not moving very much and we didn't think that he was going to make it over night. I guess we got enough*colostrum in him that he was alright. it took him a couple days to learn how to suck on the bottle but he soon figured it out and now he is drinking 18 cups of milk a day. that is two whole bottle a day. he is like a dog to me and I hope he grows well. i will show him next year at the fair. i will show him as a bull because i don't want to show him as a steer because if he is a steer he will be sold to slaughter and i already love him too much to let that happen.

It happened a little like that but it took him a little longer to get the hang of it because he has never influenced by cows.

O n the other hand for Christmas my favorites gift that i got was my .270 Winchester.
It looks a little like this but the stock and fore stock is a bit different.

My Dachshund (wiener dog) has epilepsy that means that he has seizures and he can't help it. The vet says it can be triggered by a lot of things. Scooby's is triggered by people, like having family dinners, or having friends over. I tis really sad, I don't know if it hurts him or not either. Also if the seizures happen too frequently then we will have to put him on medication. to go with that he is also hurting because the other day he was under my bed and i reached in to pull him out from the bed and when i touch him he whimpered and i tried again and he snapped at me but he didn't hurt me or anything. I just pray for him to get better because i don't want to put my dog down at 2 years old.

So it is officially winter. And a flaw about raising rabbits in the winter is that you have to change their water three times a day because if you don't, their water freezes up. Another flaw about raising rabbits in the winter is that you have to put straw in their boxes once a day.

To discuss other scenarios, we have started trapping for this winter. So far we haven't been too lucky. The only things that we have caught in our traps is one coon and one opossum.

My cats, i swear, they are the some of the dumbest farm cats. There was a mouse that ran across the ground right in front of me. So naturally I tried to step on it. The cat was sitting up on the corn header and watched this go on. I told my cat to get the dang thing and all it did was sit there. So in response I picked up the cat and threw it at the mouse. When the cat landed she just sat there and looked at the mouse. I left her alone after that. Within the next couple days I found a dead mouse, so i guess it is alright, now. Now enjoy some funny videos of cats getting mice.

Awww... Thanksgiving Break... Glorious Thanksgiving Break

So  this weekend was Thanksgiving weekend and I had 2 family dinners to go to. I also started a hobby of mine- trapping. I haven't had any luck though. Apparently it is legal to trap under any public bridge, and where people are given opportunities there will be people who take advantage of that. So if you know our coach here at Hale R-1 then you might know his dad. Well coach's dad is the person who's decided to trap underneath our bridge. It is fine, it was just that we were going down the road and saw a man walk on our land into the creek and we didn't know who had been trespassing on our land and if he/she was hunting without our permission.

So I got a little off topic, I was talking about my family dinners. Since my parents are divorced I have each side of the family, my mom's side and my dad's side, dinners to go to. I always have a lot of fun with my dad's family side because I actually know people and will talk to them. However on my mom's side of the family there are barely any people that I know and any of them that I do know they don't talk too us. So it is pretty much a bunch of awkward staring.

My mom says that their dad was like that to. I don't know if we will ever get along but I really don't care because I very rarely get to see them anyways. Now enjoy this funny video about Thanksgiving Fails.

Hake Happy Hustlers

last weekend was the 4-h deer hunters breakfast and i can tell you now it tasted good. i am telling you this because i am part of the hale happy hustlers 4-h club and that is why i had to work the breakfast. the food was good and a lot of people showed up. we raised one thousand dollars for our club! That is truly amazing because we raised all the money off of free will donations. i want to thank all the people that came to the dinner to help support our shrinking 4-h club. speaking of our shrinking 4-h club, our club seems to be sinking because of our adult leaders. ever since tena eggers and Kathy nelson left of club from our adult leaders many of our members have left, meetings don't run as smoothly, and they don't know what they are doing. i know they kind of got stuck with this job but still they should at least put out an effort to
try aand find out why so many members are leaving. i hope they can fix what is going on.

Sooo.. Lately... a loss

To catch u up on my last week... there has been a lot of things, there always is.

Something always happens to my cats and so here is the story. we have 2 kittens left out of 4 kittens in a litter, and one day i couldn't find one the kittens. i looked all over the shed for this kitten and this went on for a few days. then i assumed that i had died. i then turned to my brother and asked him if it was dead. and he said that it probably was and i asked if he knew how it died, and he responded like this," do you really want to know?" and i said yes and he told me that it was trying to get a drink out of the cattle water tank. and i fell in and my dad found it dead in the water. i decided that it was best that i quit and continue with my chores. this is kind of what happened but you know it didn't get out. :(
